welcome to my personal artist statement
Over the last few months, I have been pondering as to what is the next thing for me to do with my life. They have been hard months thinking of the future and the valuable years I have had as a daughter, wife, mother and a gatherer of artists in my community. For years I have had the desire to be an artist myself, with many attempts and many failures yet I have never been able to shake this desire from my heart and mind.
I made the decision to focus on my desire to paint, choosing horses in a simplistic form to depict their stillness, majesty and spirit, which was inspired by my many childhood memories of being around horses with my family. My journey into Robyn becoming an artist of her own merit; working on disbanding fear, changing my perspective and understanding that the attitude I have will determine the altitude as to what may be possible for me to accomplish in the coming days.
In my search for answers after some time, I began to hear and see the next step. Understanding my future will not unfold until I trust and begin. We feel so comfortable sitting within our familiar surroundings: for me too afraid to step out into the world of hope, into the world that will demand from me to change some things: to walk into the unknown where the challenge maybe too great, the failure too hard to bear, not knowing the unknown: however unless I say yes, I will never know the strength and the capacity I have that will ultimately cause me to become the person I am destined to be. 5.9.24
robyn's bio
Originally from New Zealand and now a resident of Frisco, Texas for 20 years, has journeyed from the lush environments of her homeland into the dynamic realm of art. Her early life nurtured creativity, though like many artists, she experienced moments of self-doubt. Her initial art classes sparked a passion that was briefly dimmed by criticism, leading her to pause her pursuit of art for some time.
Life’s winding course initially took her in other directions, but a pivotal choice to open her own gallery marked a significant turning point. With her passion for the arts and its presence in the community, Robyn established an art gallery in Frisco, Texas, and has been a facilitator of the arts and hospitality for 16 years. She continually brings a visual experience into the lives of many—from gallery receptions to intimate evenings with friends at home. This role allowed her not only to promote others but also to gradually revive her own artistic practice.
Having experienced life over three continents, Robyn has gained a broad understanding of differing cultures and recognizes that creativity and its expression can cross all boundaries. She believes the voice of art can be seen and heard among a greater audience, transcending cultural differences.
Robyn’s formal art education includes a period at art college as well as participation in numerous workshops, which provided essential skills. However, it is her deep love and passion for horses that largely influences her artwork. To Robyn, these noble animals are more than subjects; they carry stories and emotions conveyed through her simplistic, abstract, and sensitive style—distinguishing her work within the art community.
Her artistic technique is deeply informed by personal experience and a thoughtful connection with her subject. She has developed a style that authentically captures the spirit of horses, bringing them to life with her brushstrokes. This unique approach makes her work visually compelling and emotionally meaningful, reflecting her core values and her belief in art’s capacity to move and inspire viewers to create their own stories about the pieces.
Many of viewers comment on the lingering emotional impact her pieces leave long after viewing. Committed to further establishing her presence in the wider art world, Robyn represents the intersection of passion and persistence. Her work encourages dialogue and aims to connect, inspire, and deepen appreciation for the profound narratives found in the natural world.
