ABOUT
My passion as a painter stems from me having been a musician my entire life. I started piano as a young child, then moved to steel guitar, electric guitar and finally to bass. I’ve always loved the sounds of all the instruments. Being an art
major in college, I also loved the shapes and textures of the instruments. At a young age I began a professional music career on bass, and was very fortunate to have played with many great artists, including: Leon Russell, Al Jarreau, Bread, Dave Mason and many others. Music always gave me great satisfaction and reward. Being a bit shy, it became a natural way for me to express myself more openly. Moving on from a professional career in music, I reconnected with my art life, specifically painting. I gravitated to musical instruments that I’d spent a lifetime with and focused on their shapes and textures, light and shadows. How they feel and sound, and wanting to bring them to life on the canvas. New, shiny instruments are beautiful. But I also love the old ravaged ones. They exude the love, passion and commitment of the musicians who play them. Through these paintings, my hope is that fellow music lovers connect with the beauty & craftsmanship of these instruments and are reminded of memories & feelings stirred by the music they heard by the many artists who played them.
