“ Her Voice” In my most video works, I have focused particularly on women—especially Iranian women—highlighting the immense challenges they face. Growing up in post-revolution Iran, I experienced firsthand discrimination as a woman artist and a member of religious targeted minority in a society, so, I strive to be a voice for the voiceless, using the language of art to convey my feelings. My creative approach is informed by the teachings that I grew up with and inspire and guide my methodology. One of my key inspirations is the quote: “The world of humanity is possessed of two wings—the male and the female. So long as these two wings are not equivalent in strength, the bird will not fly.” This principle has shaped much of my artistic expression. Through my work, I often portray extraordinary women from history, and figures from art and culture, using self-performance to honor their lives and their acts of rebellion in their respective eras. This approach not only celebrates their resilience, but also underscore the shared experiences that connect us across cultures and time. My intention is to encourage audiences to reflect on their own cultural narratives while engaging with those of others. Additionally, I aim to bridge aspects of my cultural heritage with contemporary contexts, transforming these connections into different bodies of art works with different contents as well. For example, Persian art and culture are deeply rooted in poetry and literature, and I have incorporated these elements in various ways throughout my work. This fusion allows me to honor tradition while engaging with modern audiences in meaningful ways.
